Billions and Billions…

Today’s prompt from Post a Day asks whether I believe in life on other planets.

The answer is a simple yes.  The universe is a vast place.  Think about it.  We’re one planet orbiting one star which is one of billions in our galaxy. That galaxy is just one of billions of galaxies.  That’s a lot of stars, and there’s a whole lot that we don’t now about.  Even if we just limited the definition of life to carbon-based life that can only exist in an earth-like environment, even if such conditions exist in the smallest percentage of places in the universe, and even if a small percentage of said places bear fruit, that still leaves a whole lot possibilities.

I think it would be the height of arrogance to believe that we are alone in such a vast universe.  Beyond that, it would be a horribly lonely feeling, wouldn’t it?  So when I look up into the night sky, I like the idea that someone is looking back at me.
