After a long cold winter, today was the day that baseball fans everywhere have been waiting for. No matter how hard winter tries to hang on, no matter how much snow threatens, no matter how stormy the skies, baseball’s opening day sends an undeniable signal. All across the country, the boys of summer have stepped onto emerald green diamonds. The stadiums are adorned in red, white and blue bunting as players take to the foul lines. Home whites and road grays meet at home plate, each player, each coach, each fan hopeful that lightning will strike, that this will be the year that their team will find glory six months hence on a cold October night.
The slate is clean. Hope is real. It’s opening day.
